Powell Gilbert
Bryce Matthewson is a Partner at Powell Gilbert (www.powellgilbert.com), a specialist European Intellectual Property firm with offices in London, Düsseldorf and Dublin. He is a UPC representative and an experienced patent litigator with particular expertise in complex European patent disputes.
Bryce has been involved in a number of the early cases before the UPC, including infringement and revocation actions across various divisions. His UPC work builds on extensive experience coordinating multi-jurisdictional European patent litigation, including parallel national proceedings and EPO opposition proceedings, particularly for clients in the life sciences sector.
In addition, Bryce is a UK Solicitor, Irish Solicitor, and Attorney and Patent Attorney in South Africa. He has represented clients before the UK courts in patent disputes in the pharmaceutical, biotech, FMCG and medical devices sectors, and previously practised as a patent litigator in South Africa and other African jurisdictions.
Prior to undertaking his legal studies, Bryce obtained a degree in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry which provides him with a solid technical foundation when advising clients operating in the life sciences sector. Bryce joined Powell Gilbert in 2016 and became a partner in 2024.
